Too big: A roomy shelter is a cold shelter. Keep it tight.
Not enough debris: If you can see any sticks through the leaf layer, add more.
No ground insulation: The ground steals more heat than the air. Pile leaves thick inside.
Wrong materials: Wet or green leaves mat down and lose insulating value. Use dry, fluffy material.
Building in the dark: This shelter takes 2–4 hours. Start early.
